“With this second recording, the french-japanese duo seems to recenter more on its fundamental instruments that are the piano for Eve Risser, the drums for Yuko Oshima. Of course, there is still the use, more parsimonious than in “Ouature”, of electronic resources or the use of various objects. But the music in itself remained in its fundamentals, that is this ingenious and exhilarating mixture of a rich jazz (Can’t Get my Motor to Start by Carla Bley), a contemporary music far from being academic (N.A.N.C.A.R.R.O.W, or even Chaconne – tribute to Ligeti) and improvisation. A mixture sometimes destined to subtly convey sound impressions for a few haïkus of the two musicians’ own invention or borrowed (Ni fleur, ni brume) to the Chinese poet of simplicity that was Bai Juyi, in the 8th-9th centuries. Lively, joyful and inspired, this interrogation (is it a flower? translation of Hanakana) is a sound piece of work full of poetry.” – Pierre Durr.
