Description
Composition by Karl Naegelen for one percussionist. To Alexandre Esperet.
This piece is based upon a sentence that Gustav Mahler wrote in a letter to his friend Fritz Löhr. “The call of love sounds so hollow among those immobile rocks, we start fearing to hear our own voice”.
The percussionist has to use his voice in many different ways, and accompanies himself with very simple objects (stones, plastic bags, rattle etc.). I tried to create a distant echo to the deep anxiety of Mahler’s sentence. This piece is dedicated to Alexandre Esperet who premiered it in the Hermitage Theater of St Petersburg (Russia).
